Dad, I'm 21 Now follows Alma through a birthday weekend at her parents' house, where her stepbrother has come home and the two must share a bathroom. Five episodes show how her wish list puts him first, in a teasing, risky tone set within earshot of the parents down the hall.
Premise and first two chapters
A birthday weekend brings a stepbrother home to find his stepsister has written a wish list with him at number one. Alma's parents ask the pair to share a bathroom and keep the doors closed. At dinner she stumbles over a figure of speech about spreading her wings, apologizes to her father, eyes on her stepbrother. Her mother tells her she can have anything she wants this year. Alma takes that literally; he wants to stay polite and out of trouble; the parents want a calm weekend and closed doors.
The opening episode runs through the welcome, the dinner and a request for help with the candles that is plainly about something else, ending when she announces his place on her list. The second episode moves to night, with her father still awake and Alma insisting that the word step changes everything. He reminds her that the parents are down the hall; she says that is exactly the point and asks him to unzip her. Whether the parents hear anything before the weekend is over is left for episode 3.
