Premise and first two chapters
A job secured through family connections comes with conditions nobody spelled out: Jake works for Margot Vey, his girlfriend's stepmother, and she warns him on day one not to embarrass the woman who vouched for him. Margot rules her meetings without patience, and when a presentation claims the quarterly numbers will beat target by twelve points, Jake is the only one who points out that slide four is wrong. She clears the room and singles him out for that honesty. He wants to keep the job and the relationship. Margot wants him after hours.
The first episode moves from the hiring to the meeting to a private invitation, cut short when his girlfriend texts that she is five minutes away; Margot sets nine o'clock in her office anyway. Episode 2 keeps that appointment. His girlfriend is told he is stuck at work, Margot has him lock the door, and he protests that she is his girlfriend's stepmother. Midway, the girlfriend calls Margot to ask how he is doing and is reassured he is very dedicated. Whether he can keep both arrangements going is left to episode 3.
