Premise and first two chapters
A relationship that has slowed to once a month brings Jake and Tessa to a therapist's office, and the cure on offer is not the kind either of them expected. Margot Vey runs the hour with blunt questions about who starts things at home and decides that talk alone will not do the work. She wants full honesty and practical exercises; Jake wants to get through the session without embarrassing himself; Tessa wants him fixed, whatever that takes.
The pilot moves from awkward questions to a demonstration, with both partners told to stand and show what the other usually sees, before Margot demands a private session with Jake right away rather than on Thursday. In the second episode Jake sits alone with her while Tessa waits outside, and the exercise turns physical as he protests that his girlfriend can see through the door. Margot treats that as the point and calls Tessa in to learn. How Tessa handles joining the lesson is where the next session begins.
