House Rules hands the run of the house to Veronica Parker, a stepmother left alone for a week with her husband's son and a list of numbered rules she writes as she goes. His girlfriend is due to visit, which only sharpens the game. Five episodes of commands and refusals, provocative and controlling, with guilt in every scene.
Premise and first two chapters
A week-long work trip leaves a house with two occupants and one rulebook. Veronica Parker's stepson returns home to discover his father gone and his stepmother announcing house rules, beginning with total obedience. His girlfriend means to drop by tomorrow, and Veronica responds with a rule forbidding him to call her. He wants to stay faithful and keep away from his father's wife; she wants the week on her terms.
Episode 1 runs from the welcome at the door to the first rules, an invitation to the hot tub, a call with the girlfriend that Veronica interrupts with a new ban, and the ten-minute summons to the shower. The second episode picks up after he arrives late. He refuses outright, and she spends the night making sure he hears her. In the morning she meets him in a robe, adds a fourth rule forbidding him to pretend he did not hear, and then the girlfriend arrives at the door. Veronica wants him to choose her while the visitor waits outside, and his answer is the business of episode 3.
