Premise and first two chapters
A street where the men all leave for work at the same hour has developed its own signalling system. On Candy Lane, a raised flag means a resident needs help, and the local plumber answers each one. His first call is his brother's wife, Harriet Seagrave, whose kitchen pipe is leaking again despite the fitting he tightened. The plumber wants to finish his jobs and keep the family peace; Harriet and her neighbours want his attention and do not intend to wait.
Episode 1 stays under Harriet's sink: a flashlight, a burst of water that soaks them both, joking about the mess, and Harriet announcing that once the sink is done he can see to her. The second episode reveals the queue. Harriet steps out and finds two neighbours, Mrs. Vance and Mrs. Morello, waiting at her door, impatient after a morning of watching. Harriet invites them in, insists on going first, and assigns them the role of spectators until their turn arrives. The plumber has never handled three clients at once, and how the visit ends is left to episode 3.
