Midnight Compartment unfolds on an overnight train, where an employee is booked into the same sleeper as his employer and Veronica Parker, the employer's wife. Five episodes keep the danger close; the tone is cramped, risky and tightly wound, with a job on the line at every stop.
Premise and first two chapters
A booking error on a company trip leaves one employee with nowhere to sleep except compartment 12, which his boss has claimed entirely for himself and his wife. The boss orders him out; Veronica Parker overrules her husband and lets him stay. The employee has thought about her for a long time and now has a night of closeness he did not ask for. He wants to survive the trip with his job intact and a presentation ready by morning. Veronica says she is cold and asks him to warm her up.
The pilot ends on that request, after Veronica tells him he is her favorite employee, whatever her husband thinks. Episode 2 starts with the boss waking from a nightmare about losing her; she swears she would never leave, while the employee pretends nothing happened. At a station stop the boss is sent for coffee, Veronica keeps the employee behind for luggage and insists on being called ma'am, and the train is minutes from leaving. Whether the boss gets back to the carriage before they are caught is the question episode 3 must answer.
