My Best Friend's Mom Has One Rule rests on Jake, who is minding the house for his friend Tyler, and Margot Vey, Tyler's mother, who returns unannounced and forbids him one room. Five episodes test that rule from every angle; the tone is brief, teasing and built on a dare.
Premise and first two chapters
A favor for a friend goes wrong in the first minute, when Jake lets himself into Tyler's house and runs into a woman in a towel who demands to know who he is. She is Margot Vey, Tyler's mother, home when nobody expected her; Tyler forgot to warn her, as usual, and is due back the next day. Jake explains he is only there to keep an eye on the place. Margot accepts that and sets one condition: he is not to enter her room. Jake wants to keep the favor simple. His thoughts about Margot are anything but simple, and he knows it.
Episode 1 is the awkward introduction and the rule itself, with Jake privately admitting he should not be thinking about his friend's mother this way. The second episode finds him having broken it. Margot reminds him of the one thing she asked, has him drop the formal title and use her first name, then points out that the rule covered her room and said nothing about his. Whether Jake's stay survives Tyler's return the next day is what episode 3 has to show.
