My Best Friends Mom hinges on Jake, a broke house-sitter who gets entangled with Vanessa, his best friend Tyler's recently divorced mother, and later with Dana, the friend who caught them. Over five episodes he juggles two demanding women and the clock before Tyler returns. Sly, competitive and fast.
Premise and first two chapters
A weekend of watching a friend's house goes wrong once Jake learns the place is not as empty as promised. Tyler, his best friend, asked him to keep an eye on things, but Tyler's mother Vanessa is home, freshly divorced and glad of the company. The house is stifling hot, she wants help with her back, and Jake keeps reminding himself whose mother she is. Then Dana, Vanessa's best friend, walks through a gate left wide open, sizes up the situation in seconds and promises to keep quiet, for the moment.
Episode 1 builds from the poolside request to a cheerful phone call with Tyler, during which Jake insists everything is perfectly normal, and ends with Dana's arrival. The second instalment sets her price: silence in exchange for a turn with him. Vanessa refuses to share, the two friends trade possessive remarks, and Vanessa claims the evening, telling Jake to lock the door. With Dana still holding the secret and Tyler due home, how long the arrangement can last is unresolved.
