My Mother-In-Law Wants To Be My Hall Pass pairs a loyal husband, Dan, with his wife Kate's mother, Margot, after Kate jokes that she would gladly give him a free pass. Five episodes count his refusals as Margot keeps asking. Mostly talk, teasing and confrontational, built on one running dare.
Premise and first two chapters
A joke over dinner about granting a hall pass gives Margot an opening, and Dan, the son-in-law who laughed along, becomes her target. Kate trusts her husband so completely that she says she would grant him a free night with anyone, certain he would never use it. Everyone laughs except her mother. Dan wants to stay the faithful husband his wife describes. Margot wants to test exactly how firm his refusals are.
Episode 1 corners him in the kitchen while he makes coffee. Margot asks whether he would use the pass; he says no, quickly, which she finds intriguing. She points out his racing heart, invites him to admit he has thought about it, and mentions that Kate's book club runs from seven to ten the next evening. The second episode begins once Kate has left. Margot has him fix a buckle, then pushes for another refusal and asks what Kate will not let him do. Kate calls, and Margot answers smoothly for both of them. She then asks him to unzip her dress, and whether his no holds a third time is left to episode 3.
