Packing Up My Best Friend's Mom follows Amanda, newly divorced and selling her home, and her son's friend, who has a van and a week to empty the house. Five episodes move room by room while an estate agent hovers; the tone is warm, flirtatious and a little reckless.
Premise and first two chapters
A family house has to be empty by Friday, when the sale closes, and the job falls to the friend of Amanda's son Rory. Rory is abroad and asks him by phone to look after his mother after a hard year. Amanda spent twenty years with a husband who never looked at her, and she wants to leave the place with better memories than the ones in the boxes. Her estate agent, Tamsin, runs viewings downstairs and has plans for the helper too. Every item gets the same question: keep or toss.
Episode 1 starts with an old outfit Amanda asks him to judge, survives a viewing with buyers held downstairs, and ends in Rory's old bedroom while Rory himself calls to ask how she is coping. The second episode moves to Amanda's own bedroom, where Tamsin makes her offer to the helper before Amanda sends her away. Amanda tells him he is the first to make her feel wanted in twenty years and turns her son's request into an instruction. Whether Rory learns how literally his friend took that request is left for episode 3.
