Riley First, Regina Next follows Jack, whose girlfriend Riley takes him to meet her stepmother Regina after two years apart, and Regina's interest in him becomes hard to miss. Five episodes balance a happy couple against a reunion that keeps going wrong. Playful, flirtatious and increasingly reckless.
Premise and first two chapters
A reunion two years in the making puts Jack in front of the one relative his girlfriend most wants to impress. Riley has been overwhelmed with deadlines and credits Jack with keeping her sane, including a two-hour drive just to bring her coffee. Her stepmother Regina has been too busy to visit, but now wants to meet the man Riley keeps praising. Regina greets him with compliments about how strong and handsome he is, and Riley takes it as approval rather than a warning.
Episode 1 starts with Riley dragging Jack out of bed and fussing over her outfit, then moves to the reunion and Riley's suggestion that everyone dance. The second episode turns on an accident: during the dancing a drink ends up all over Regina, who asks Jack, rather than Riley, to help her with it. Riley finds them together moments later, and someone heads for the door before anything is explained. Who Jack goes after, and what Riley believes she saw, is still unsettled.
