Premise and first two chapters
Three human lovers have entered the Dragon Queen's chambers before him, and none came back out, which makes Ethan's selection feel less like an honor than a sentence. He is a captive, a commoner with a family somewhere beyond the palace, and he knows how easily humans break in this place. Veyra rules with fire and expects obedience, ordering him to speak her name as proof he belongs to her. The court treats him as a curiosity at best, and the guards whisper about how long he will last.
Episode 1 covers the first night: Ethan hesitates, Veyra insists, and by morning he is dragged out while the whispers about her previous companions follow him. In episode 2 a courtier asks who the human is, and Veyra calls him nobody in public, then threatens to burn the home of anyone who touches him. Alone, she explains the distinction: before the court he is property, and in private he is allowed to feel it. She warns him not to break like the others. Whether Ethan can start bending her rules is the question for episode 3.
