Date With My Stepmom turns on a canceled dinner and an overheard remark. Nina, dressed for an evening her husband skipped for work, finds herself home with his adult son Evan, who is caught praising her looks to someone else. Five episodes, short and playful, with a teasing, confrontational edge.
Premise and first two chapters
A dinner reservation dies at the last minute when Nina's husband says work comes first, and she is left in the house in a dress chosen for him. His son Evan comes home expecting an empty evening and finds her instead, still dressed up and visibly annoyed. Then, talking to someone else, he describes how she looked in unguarded terms, and Nina hears every word. She wants an evening that does not go to waste, and a little payback. He wants the floor to open up.
The pilot moves from the cancellation to the awkward hallway greeting to Evan's overheard confession, which he tries clumsily to retract before Nina dismisses his denial and wants to know if he enjoyed the view. Episode 2 holds him to it: she asks him to repeat the compliment and say whether it was true. His only objection is what happens if his father returns, and she points out that he is worried about being caught rather than about who she is. How Evan answers that, with his father due back at some point, is left open for episode 3.
