My Best Friend's Bride sets up a pre-wedding weekend in which the bride, Bree, stops pretending she only ever saw the groom. The best man, loyal to Jake for years, is the one she pulls aside. Five episodes, played as a guilty, whispered slow burn with the groom always one room away.
Premise and first two chapters
A wedding two days away should mean only toasts and errands for the best man, yet Bree, the bride, keeps finding reasons to need him. Jake, the groom and his friend of many years, is busy with the caterer and tends to fall asleep early, which leaves the house quiet at night. Bree points out how long he has kept his distance and asks whether she was ever really Jake's. He wants to reach the ceremony with the friendship intact. She wants an answer before she says her vows.
The pilot sets the household in motion: Jake hands off the dress fitting, Bree asks for help upstairs because her fiancé is hopeless with zippers, and the best man plays dumb. Episode 2 moves to the following night, when she bids him good night and he finds he cannot walk away. She asks him to help her out of the dress before Jake returns, and Jake's voice drifts in from another room as he hunts for his keys. Whether the best man stays in that room or goes back to his friend is left to episode 3.
