My First Night Shift follows a hotel's freshly hired night manager, the sole man working after dark in an elegant old building, as each room-service call leads to a different guest with plans for him. Five episodes are structured door by door, with a smooth, suggestive and lightly comic register.
Premise and first two chapters
A first night behind the front desk of a grand old hotel comes with a duty no one mentioned in the interview: the night manager also handles room service. He is nervous enough that a colleague, Sloane, tells him he looks like he is waiting for a fire alarm before she is called upstairs and leaves him alone at the desk. The staff on duty are all women, the corridors are quiet, and the phone soon rings with an order for the evening special in room 808. He carries it up himself.
The first episode follows him to 808 with a dessert plate, where the guest admits she was not hungry and makes clear that he is what she ordered. Episode 2 stays in that room: she gets more comfortable, invites him to join her, and he hesitates while trying to believe it is happening. Their encounter is brief and frank. The rest of the shift still lies ahead, and which door calls down next is left for episode 3.
