My Son's Fiancée follows Mark, a father whose household fills with wedding errands once the woman engaged to his son moves in until the ceremony. She keeps asking for his verdict on every dress while his wife is a room away. Five episodes of fittings, place cards and loaded honesty. Tense, wry, almost entirely in looks and dialogue.
Premise and first two chapters
A ten-day countdown to a wedding brings a houseguest who wants opinions. Mark's son Jason works late most nights and has parked his fiancée in his parents' home. His wife tells him to be honest with her, so he becomes the judge of hemlines. Jason calls the rehearsal-dinner dress too short; she wants Mark to say otherwise, and to look properly while he does. He wants to keep his marriage intact; she wants to be seen.
The opening episode stacks small favours: a zipper, a verdict that the dress is perfect, Jason leaving for another late night, and an invitation to the final fitting where only Mark's opinion counts. Episode 2 brings the real wedding gown. With his wife calming the florist, Mark is sent to adjust a garter that keeps needing to sit higher, while his wife calls out asking for a peek. The fiancée asks whether Jason deserves her and whether Mark does, then reminds him the ten days are a last chance to object. He says he does; what that objection will cost is the matter for episode 3.
