Our Exchange Student builds a comedy of vocabulary around Mica Sarasola, a guest from abroad whose host's boyfriend becomes her very patient language partner. Five episodes turn each new English phrase into a dare, timed to his girlfriend's showers and late shifts. Playful, flirtatious and full of double meanings.
Premise and first two chapters
A hosting arrangement chosen by his girlfriend brings Mica Sarasola into a man's home for several months, and her questions about English are not the ones he expected. The girlfriend is busy, often working late, and asks him to help their guest settle in. Mica seems shy on the surface, curious underneath, and learns best, she says, when someone shows her. He wants to be a good host. She wants each new phrase demonstrated.
Episode 1 starts with a harmless-sounding request to define friends with benefits. He explains, awkwardly, and Mica decides she likes the part about no strings, then adds tease to her list of words. His girlfriend calls him to bed; Mica notes that she will be working late tomorrow. The second episode times everything to the girlfriend's twelve-minute shower. Mica asks what it means to cross a line and wants to be shown where it is, a phone call briefly interrupts, and she counts down the minutes they have left. Whether he tells her to stop before the water shuts off is left for episode 3.
