The New Girl opens with a chance meeting in an unfamiliar hallway and follows a newcomer, Emilia, as she talks a committed man into her room on his first day. Across five episodes his girlfriend Chloe keeps calling, and every excuse he gives costs him time. Teasing, fast and built on stalling tactics.
Premise and first two chapters
A promise of good behavior on day one lasts only until a stranger asks him the way to room 204. She introduces herself as new too, suggests they get lost together, and asks almost at once whether he has a girlfriend. He does: Chloe, who sent him off that morning with a warning to stay out of trouble. The newcomer, Emilia, then remembers an errand. She left her books in her room nearby, it will take five minutes, and she needs a hand carrying them.
The pilot follows him through her door, where she sits him down and declines to leave, offering to show him something he will not find in any lesson plan. In the second episode he tells her plainly that he is taken, and she wants to know whether Chloe is the jealous type. Then Chloe rings, suddenly free and suggesting the courtyard; he tells her he is tied up for ten minutes. Emilia decides those ten minutes are hers. Whether Chloe ever learns where he spent them stays open for episode 3.
