Under the Boss tracks an office triangle in London: a boss, his possessive assistant, and Harriet, the temp who arrives anxious about fitting in and leaves his attention fixed on her. Five episodes mix workplace awkwardness with jealousy, in a warm, comic register that never mocks its heroine.
Premise and first two chapters
A first day at a glossy London office throws Harriet into a building where she is sure she does not belong. She worries she is not polished enough, blurts out that she has admired the boss before correcting it to the company, and swears in front of him within hours. The boss finds all of it charming. His assistant, who has just floated a Thursday dinner, does not. She wants the boss for herself; Harriet wants to keep the job without embarrassing herself; the boss wants to give the onboarding tour personally.
Episode 1 moves from the assistant shuffling his meetings to Harriet's nervous introduction, ending with the boss cancelling his morning to show her around. The second episode splits between the tour, which reaches a storeroom of company T-shirts and hoodies that Harriet must try on, and the assistant outside with a colleague named Vic, insisting nothing could be happening. Inside, Harriet asks for black instead of white, apologizes for her language, and the boss tells her both suit her. How long the assistant can keep telling herself otherwise is the matter for episode 3.
