Premise and first two chapters
A failed university exam becomes the excuse for a night meeting nobody else is meant to know about. Bree Whitlock teaches English literature, and one man in her lecture hall watched her instead of the board for the entire term. She keeps him behind and names his focus as the problem. She is married, and her husband believes she is busy marking papers. He wants to pass the retake; she wants obedience and his full attention, and both are risking their reputations.
Episode 1 starts with his result and her verdict, then a tense after-hours talk in which he keeps looking at her while she lists his failings. She dismisses him, notices he is still staring, and proposes a one-to-one meeting at nine. When the second episode begins he is late, is told to sit and to read a line of poetry again, and is forbidden to look away. She asks what is distracting him, mentions what she stands to lose if her husband learns of it, and announces that the real lesson begins. What that lesson costs once his girlfriend notices is the thread episode 3 picks up.
