His Wife, His Rules sets up a week at the desert estate of a billionaire, where Jake, there to support his fiancée Dana's promotion bid, is invited by host Marcus Voss into a private game involving Marcus's wife Vanessa. Five episodes of rules, temptation and careful lying, with a cool, calculating register.
Premise and first two chapters
One week at a desert estate will decide whether Dana becomes a vice president, and she has told Jake that his only job is to be invisible. Her boss, Marcus Voss, is a billionaire who runs his retreats like tests, and his assistant has Dana booked until four. Jake waits by the pool and meets Vanessa, Marcus's wife, who promises they will take good care of him. Ten minutes later Marcus calls Jake to the fire pit for a talk between men, and the question he asks there has nothing to do with business.
The pilot ends on that question, with Marcus calmly admitting that every visitor stares at his wife and that he prefers honesty. In episode 2 he explains a game the couple has played on retreats for ten years, with rules: only when he offers, never in the main house, the casita is Jake's, and Dana never finds out. Refusing means going home with a tan. Vanessa starts with sunscreen and a frank talk about being overlooked, until Dana's voice calls from nearby. Whether Jake has been seen is left hanging.
