My Roommate's Girlfriend pits Nate, a roommate with no filter, against Sadie, who spends every weekend at the apartment with her mild boyfriend Ben. Over five episodes their bickering keeps sliding toward a dare neither will back down from. It is mostly sharp dialogue, confrontational and quick, with the boyfriend never far away.
Premise and first two chapters
A shared apartment with thin walls means Nate hears every one of Sadie's weekend sleepovers, and he has decided that what he hears proves her boyfriend Ben is a bore. Ben is easygoing and kind; Nate considers him a good roommate and a dull partner. Sadie stays every weekend, wishes Nate would move out and calls him the worst person she knows. Nate walks around in a towel, says what nobody else will, and believes she enjoys arguing with him more than she lets on.
Episode 1 is a morning-after in the kitchen: Nate needles Sadie about the night before, she snaps back, and Ben cheerfully asks whether she can stay the whole weekend. Nate agrees and tells her where to find him when she gets bored. By the second episode it is 2 a.m., and Sadie walks out for water in very little, Nate asks why, and the sparring turns into a dare while Ben, half asleep, calls out once from the bedroom. She orders Nate to say what he wants, out loud. Whether he follows through on the kitchen counter is the matter episode 3 opens on.
