Premise and first two chapters
A family reunion on a ranch brings Lea face to face with Jake, a step-cousin new to her, while her boyfriend spends the visit fussing over a new colt. Their relation is loose enough that Lea jokes they are only sort of related, and she says it more than once. Jake has a reputation as the quiet one in the family. Lea finds that reputation interesting, and with her boyfriend out at the corral, she has time on her hands.
Episode 1 begins with an awkward walk-in, then a crowded table with no free seat except the one beside Jake. The relatives watching them remark on how well the pair gets along. At the end of the evening the boyfriend volunteers Jake to take Lea riding the next morning and show her the property. The second episode skips the tour. Jake waits, Lea turns up late, her boyfriend calls her name from about twenty feet away, and she suggests Jake keep her quiet. Whether the boyfriend walks in on them is what episode 3 must decide.
