The Prince's Last Week Unwed is a costume romance: on the eve of his arranged marriage to Princess Maren, a prince is reclaimed by Lady Antonella, the step-cousin he once spent a night with. Five episodes of court ritual, banquets and one ribbon given away. Lush, theatrical and fast-moving.
Premise and first two chapters
A royal wedding set for the next day is thrown off balance when Lady Antonella, the prince's step-cousin, arrives after four days in the saddle to remind him of a night they once shared. The prince has been promised to Princess Maren, a match his father arranged the winter before. Antonella has no interest in courtly manners. She wants to know whether he still remembers their nights in the family home and whether he will let a marriage settle the matter for him.
The pilot turns on a tournament custom: the winner offers his ribbon to the woman he will marry, yet the prince, before the whole court, hands it to Antonella. She asks if that is a declaration and says she will seek him out during the feast. The second episode moves to the banquet hall. Maren speaks tenderly about the coming night, Antonella notes the prince has not touched his food, and while the guests raise their cups she pulls him behind a curtain. What the court sees when the toast ends is the question episode 3 inherits.
