Trespasser of the Sunken Court casts a mortal burglar and an elven princess, Thalindra Sol-Kaelen, in a fantasy of capture and obsession. She spares the thief who invaded her garden and keeps him hidden from her betrothed. Five episodes, lush and commanding, in a dominant, high-stakes register.
Premise and first two chapters
A stolen relic is the only reason anyone slips into the sunken court, and legend says nobody who enters ever leaves. The thief who tries it comes for a stone and loses his focus the instant he sees the princess who rules there, Thalindra Sol-Kaelen, who calls herself a goddess and expects to be treated as one. Every intruder before him begged for his life; he barely speaks, and that intrigues her. She has the right to execute him on the spot. Instead she keeps him, which puts her standing, her crown and an arranged match at risk.
The first episode is the capture: the kneeling thief, the princess's questions about what he truly came for, and his answer that he is looking at it. In episode 2 he wakes to his new status as her possession, and she begins teaching him to obey. A messenger announces that her betrothed is asking for her, and she warns that discovery would mean death for both of them. What that will demand of him, with the betrothed close at hand, is set aside for episode 3.
